Eurokera
Fountain Inn, South Carolina

THS Constructors retrofitted approximately 8,000 square feet of space at Eurokera  North America’s headquarters in the South Chase Industrial Park near Fountain Inn.  The 10-week project included the addition of a Class 100,000 clean room and the renovation of the plant’s offices. Among the services THS Constructors provided were estimating, scheduling, procurement, project control and quality control.  The renovation portion of the project required the demolition of existing office space. Prior to startup, THS Constructors led a value engineering effort that brought costs in line with the client’s budget.  Eurokera is an international manufacturer of glass ceramic products for the home appliance market, including ranges, cook tops, stove windows, and glass doors for fireplaces.


Johnson Controls
West Union, South Carolina

THS Constructors completed work on a multimillion-dollar expansion for Johnson Controls that included modifications to the existing structure to accommodate a new  power grid manufacturing line and an innovative design for an addition that takes into  account severe changes in the site elevation. Besides site development, the scope of work for the addition encompassed building construction, extensive foundations and retaining walls, as well as electrical and underground mechanical systems. Among the services that THS Constructors provided were estimating, value engineering, scheduling, permitting and procurement.  This design-build project took six months to  complete. Johnson Controls is the largest automotive battery manufacturer in North  America.


Pegasus Steel
Charleston, South Carolina

THS Constructors was selected to provide equipment foundations for a 185,000-pound press. The scope for the project included equipment foundations, piers and mat  foundations for the equipment and related utilities.


South Atlantic Galvanizing Steel
Travelers Rest, South Carolina

THS Constructors was awarded the construction contract for a ground water extraction and treatment system facility. This project consisted of civil, structural, mechanical and electric work, including sitework, piping and electrical systems. In addition, it encompassed facilities for housing filtration systems, a filter press, and pumping systems that treat contaminated ground water.

BMW Manufacturing Company
Greer, South Carolina

This world-class automaker has awarded THS Constructors a series of contracts for projects at its Greer assembly plant, which ships cars around the globe. Moreover, an equipment foundation project for the body shop included foundations for the new body-in-white manufacturing operations.  These foundations support a turntable and robotic cells to convey and build the BIW structures for automobiles sold worldwide.

The company was recently chosen as the design-build contractor for a new engine and transmission stacker building at BMW’s assembly plant expansion in Greer.  The project scope consists of a rack-supported, 75-foot-tall ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval System) warehouse that will supply BMW engines and transmissions directly to the new assembly line.

Also it has been awarded the construction of a chemical storage facility that will support the entire BMW manufacturing operation on the Greer campus.  The new facility will house logistics management and control personnel as well as explosion-proof areas for chemicals related to the car manufacturing process and related support systems at the Greer site.

A third award encompasses logistics and manufacturing additions at the new 1.2-million-square-foot assembly plant in Greer. These expansions will facilitate the just-in-time delivery of components, parts and systems for the new, highly automated vehicle manufacturing plant.


Bridgestone Firestone
Graniteville, South Carolina

The critical issue on the $14-million expansion of this client’s rubber-mixing building was the schedule.  THS Constructors created value for this project by meeting the 13-week schedule, allowing the client to install equipment on time without a slowdown  in production.  The scope of work included the construction of an area for slitting operations, the expansion of the hot room, and the installation of utilities and steam systems for drying and curing rubber.  This expansion has allowed Bridgestone  Firestone to make process improvements for the facility’s new line for manufacturing light truck and passenger tires. This project is part of a $33-million investment the company is making over the next four years to add production equipment, upgrade its mixing operations, and retool existing equipment.

MOOG Components Group
Blacksburg, Virginia

THS Constructors was selected to provide design-build services for this client’s 70,000-square-foot aerospace manufacturing facility in Blacksburg. The project included extensive utilities and mezzanines for process equipment and machinery.


Moog Components Group
Murphy, North Carolina

THS Constructors delivered a design-build project for Moog that called for expanding its Murphy facility by 65,000 square feet to be used for assembly operations,  warehousing and utilities. The scope of work encompassed site utilities, electrical and HVAC work, as well as the construction of a 12,000-square-foot mezzanine.  The expanded structure features a steel frame covered by metal panels and a membrane roof.  THS Constructors worked closely with Moog to provide detailed options analysis  on a broad range of building systems and utilities. Moog selected the options that best met its budget requirements. The construction of this design-build project was completed in six months from construction start to certificate of occupancy.

Timken
Walhalla, South Carolina

Timken, the world’s largest manufacturer of tapered roller bearings, contracted with THS Constructors to design and build three projects in connection with the expansion of its Walhalla facility.  The first is a 50,000-square-foot addition that has areas for heat treating, stamping, forming, surface treatment and utilities.  This project included major upgrades to the electrical and HVAC systems in the existing plant.  The second is a 15,000-square-foot, Class “A,” two-story office building that features a unique entrance to the lobby that emulates the angular rotation created by the bearings made  at this facility. The third is a 3,000-square-foot cafeteria and employee welfare area.   The cafeteria/office building and manufacturing plant have conventional steel frames covered by insulated metal panels. THS Constructors provided design and construction services as well as estimating, value engineering, scheduling and  procurement. To keep to a tight schedule, the company generated design documents in just four weeks.  The schedule called for all three projects to be completed in seven months. Timken’s Walhalla plant makes bearings for the automotive market and is  ISO 14001 certified.


Timken
Sylvania, Georgia

As part of an expansion at its Sylvania plant, Timken awarded a contract to THS  Constructors to build the press pit foundation and the structure to house a $2.5-million, 240,000-pound Schuler Press. The scope of work included site  preparation and extensive excavation and concrete form work required for the heavy  foundation. Quality control was critical; the press pit had to meet precise tolerances.  THS Constructors completed the project within a four-month timeframe. This is the second project Timken awarded THS Constructors within a year.  The other was a  series of design-build projects at Timken’s plant in Walhalla, South Carolina.  Timken is the world’s largest manufacturer of tapered roller bearings. The plant in Sylvania  serves the automotive industry.


MK Metallfolien
Duncan, South Carolina

THS Constructors provided construction services for the up-fit and renovation of an  80,000-square-foot metal processing facility for MK. The scope included extensive concrete foundations for a 52,000-pound steel rolling mill with associated equipment, hydraulics, and electrical services.

TIC Properties – FedEx
Greenville, South Carolina

THS Constructors completed design and construction for the expansion of the FedEx  Ground facility just off Interstate 85 in Greenville. The facility is owned by TIC Properties of Greenville and is leased to FedEx Ground, which uses it for sorting, conveying and shipping packages. The scope of work included extensive site work as well as the relocation of underground utilities and storm water retention areas. The schedule was critical; the facility was delivered within 5½ months to allow FedEx Ground to install sorting and conveying equipment by the target date required in its expansion plans.


SEW Eurodrive
Spartanburg County, South Carolina

THS Constructors was selected to provide design-build services for the 75,000-square-foot assembly and warehouse expansion for SEW’s operation in  Lyman, South Carolina.  This facility builds hydraulic drives for industrial equipment distributed worldwide.

Greenville Hospital System
Greenville, South Carolina

THS Constructors provided construction services for the 85,000-square-foot Steadman  Hawkins Musculoskeletal Institute at the Patewood Campus of Greenville Hospital System.  The project  included upfitting existing space for exam rooms for conducting diagnostic procedures such as radiology, CAT scans and MRIs.  In addition, the facility features bio-skills and vascular labs, physical therapy and treatment rooms, stations for nurses, waiting areas and conference rooms, as well as offices and administrative areas. The schedule called for the project to be completed in six months. THS Constructors provided services ranging from estimating and scheduling to permitting and procurement. The institute is part of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas, which in partnership with Greenville Hospital System, is building a world-class sports medicine and orthopedics program for the Upstate of South Carolina.

Draexlmaier of America
Duncan, South Carolina

THS Constructors completed an upfit and renovation project for Draexlmaier at its facility in Duncan that included offices for the human resources staff, an audiovisual area and conference room.  The project was completed in eight weeks. THS  Constructors provided services such as estimating, value engineering, procurement and quality control. The Duncan facility, Draexlmaier’s North American headquarters, makes automotive interior trim for high-end car makers such as BMW, which has a plant  nearby.


TIC Properties
Greenville, South Carolina

THS Constructors managed multiple renovations in an existing 16-story, 25-year-old office building in downtown Greenville.  Clients included Clear Channel Communications, Bankers Exchange, and TIC Properties, as well as Camille’s Restaurant. The project was part of a $55-million redevelopment project.
 


Clear Channel Radio
Greenville, South Carolina

THS Constructors renovated Clear Channel Radio’s regional headquarters, a project  covering 25,300 square feet on the 10th and 11th floors.  The new area is being used  by radio stations WMYI, WSSL, WESC and WBZT for broadcast studios, production, sales and administration.  The job was completed within a 10-week timeframe.


Banker’s Exchange
Greenville, South Carolina

The project for The Banker’s Exchange encompassed 5,000 square feet of offices, work areas, break rooms and the lobby on the 2nd floor.  It had an eight-week schedule. This project included demolition of existing areas; upfits to the mechanical, electrical  and fire protection systems; and finish work such as carpeting, paint, millwork and ceiling tiles. In addition, the projects were executed in phases to minimize disruptions to the client’s ongoing operations.


Siemens North America
Roebuck, South Carolina

Sticking to a tight, four-month schedule, THS Constructors provided office construction and renovation services to this client at its 18,900-square-foot facility in the Upstate.  The scope called for new executive, accounting, human resources, production, and engineering offices, as well as space for the computer and IT staff and conference rooms.  The renovation encompassed foundations and steel structural framing to support a second-story mezzanine.

THS Constructors was recently selected to provide construction services for a wind turbine research and development laboratory and test facility for a major energy company at its Greenville plant.  This is a one-of-a-kind facility for this client’s wind turbine research worldwide

The project will house research and product development operations for wind turbines,  rotors and related equipment. The equipment will evaluate the mechanical strength of bearings, housings and other turbine components. This project includes a 5-foot-thick impact slab for the high-stress, high-load requirements of the mechanical testing. In addition, this facility will have a high-load, 13,200-volt switchgear that will serve one 7.8  MW transformer and two 3.5 MW transformers.

The high-bay building has multiple laboratories and testing operations, including a 60-ton crane bay and a 50-ton crane bay.  The 60-ton bay has a 5,000-square-foot, 5-foot-deep, heavily reinforced mat foundation with 5-inch thick sole plates and more than 140 2-inch diameter threaded tie-rods embedded in the foundation to hold down  turbine housings and drive bearings for Yaw testing. This foundation is sized for an  up-lift force of over 1.2 million pounds. The 50-ton bay has an equally complex foundation with 6-inch and 8-inch sole plates and tie-rods for gearbox testing operations.  Other areas include space for testing the microstructure, electromagnetic interference and electrical characteristics of the turbine generators and components.


Michelin Americas Research Corporation
Greenville, South Carolina

One of the world’s leading tiremakers contracted with THS Constructors to build six tire test cells used to research and evaluate car and truck tires. Included in the scope were foundations, test stands, masonry test cells, and HVAC temperature controls to simulate outside temperature conditions.  The project was completed within seven months.


CYTEC Carbon Fibers
Greenville, South Carolina

THS Constructors provided construction services for an R&D laboratory, electrical  room, switchgear room, pipe bridge and interior renovations for CYTEC Carbon Fibers at its Greenville plant. These renovations support a new carbon fiber line and R&D pilot  lines.


Confidential Biotechnology Company
Summerville, South Carolina

THS Constructors has been selected to provide construction services for a  55,000-square-foot bio-manufacturing, research and development facility in  Summerville. The facility includes laboratories and process equipment for growing tree seedlings. It also includes research and development laboratories as well as office and administrative facilities.

Pickens Elementary School
Pickens, South Carolina

The renovation of this 18,500-square-foot building included upgrades to the HVAC and electrical systems as well as painting and adding new finishes. The project was competed in 75 days. Jumper Carter Sease provided architectural services.


Charles Lea Center Industrial Training Facility
Spartanburg, South Carolina

THS Constructors converted a 150,000-square-foot warehouse into a training facility for  people with disabilities and special needs. The project included the upfit of space for  use as offices, client interview areas, and training and administration. The scope  called for retrofitting existing electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems with high-efficiency HVAC equipment.


Boiling Springs Library
Boiling Springs, South Carolina

THS Constructors renovated the 10,000-square-foot Boiling Springs Library in Spartanburg County.  This “green” project included recycling construction waste such as metal and concrete.
