THS Constructors Celebrates Grand Opening of Claflin University’s Health and Wellness Complex

THS Constructors recently announced the completion and Grand Opening for the new Jonas T. Kennedy Health and Wellness Complex for Claflin University  in Orangeburg, S.C.  The new Health and Wellness Complex is a two-story, 34,744-square-foot, building that includes a full-size gymnasium, a running track, locker rooms for men and women, a two-floor fitness area, multiple classrooms, offices and a full demonstration kitchen.

Claflin University has made a commitment to the Orangeburg community to help promote health and wellness within the school and the City of Orangeburg.  The facility will be open to all residents of Orangeburg.

“THS was instrumental in value engineering the early design documents and made recommendations in the overall construction cost and completed the project on time and under budget.  THS provided excellent service to Claflin University on our new health and wellness complex that will not only serve the students of Claflin, but the community of Orangeburg,” said Tijuana Hutson, Claflin Vice President for Fiscal Affairs.

THS Constructors worked with architecture firm, McMillan Pazdan Smith  and engineering firms Edisto Engineers & Surveyors and MMSA Structural Engineers.  The complete design and construction of the new 34,744 square foot facility was completed in late 2018.

Claflin University was founded in 1869 and is a private, coeducational, liberal arts university located in Orangeburg, S.C. and offer bachelor’s and master’s degrees.  In 2014, it was ranked as the best liberal arts college in South Carolina by Washington Monthly, and in 2018 it was ranked as the seventh-best HBCU in the nation by US News & World Report.
