We are pleased to announce that THS Constructors, Inc. is now entirely owned by employees of the Company by means of a redemption of Company stock from certain family members and affiliates of our Company’s founder, T. Howard Suitt. Employee ownership of THS was a dream of Howard’s, and the shareholders are grateful to Howard and the Suitt family for their unwavering support in continuing Howard’s long-term goal for the company to be owned by its employees. Howard had a clear mission for the company to be an employee-owned, relationship-focused construction services company committed to its clients, partners, and suppliers.
Howard Suitt began his career, after graduating from The Citadel, as a Project Manager and Division Manager with Daniel Construction. In 1968, he founded SUITT Construction Company and grew annual revenues to over $450 million by the mid-1990’s with offices throughout the southeast United States. In 1996, Howard sold SUITT to BE&K Building Group and eventually retired as Chairman in the early 2000’s. Not one to sit idle, Howard founded THS Constructors, Inc in 2005.
Over the years, Howard proved to be a strategic thinker and understood that, for his dream to become a reality, he must implement a thoughtful company succession plan designed to continue his legacy. Howard put this plan in place in 2018 when the Board of Directors named Dana L Emberton as CEO.
“Howard was a tremendous mentor for me as well as so many others,” said Dana Emberton, President & CEO of THS Constructors. “When Howard named me President in 2015 and then CEO 4 years ago, he knew that we would continue to grow the company in the direction he had always envisioned and carry on his legacy.”
We also would like to announce the retirement of Tom Suitt from his role as Chairman of the Board and Senior Vice President of the Company, the latter of which will be effective as of this summer. Since joining THS, Tom has been responsible for business development and growth of the Company. With over 30 years of experience in the construction industry, Tom has been involved in every phase of the construction process, including conceptual design, estimating, purchasing, contract formation, construction, and owner occupancy. Tom is a licensed general contractor and in his many years in the business has been involved in building facilities totaling approximately 10 million square feet of space. Tom also managed banking and surety relationships for the former SUITT Construction Company.
